Several Internet cafe operators in Hengyang City discovered that the computers in their Internet cafes had been implanted with a "mining" program by someone else at some point, and were remotely controlled to illegally earn virtual currency for profit, seriously affecting the normal operation of computer hardware and network security. The operators, puzzled, called the police for help!
The police found that the software programs implanted in multiple Internet cafes in the area would perform calculations on computers through specific algorithms. After the calculations were completed, specific results were automatically obtained, thereby generating virtual currency, which could be converted into real currency on third-party platforms. In layman's terms, it is "online mining."
Through analysis of the program, the task force police learned through preliminary investigation that the developer of this Trojan program was an Internet technology company in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.
After investigation, it was found that Zhang, the legal representative of the company, used commissions as an inducement to instigate network technicians to secretly implant "mining" programs into computer hosts in Internet cafes across the country when they were maintaining Internet cafe systems. The programs were used to mine and illegally make profits by obtaining virtual currency. In the past three years, Zhang has paid commissions of up to 20 million yuan to network maintenance personnel.
After basically understanding the case, the police of the special task force determined that this was a nationwide major case of illegal control of computer information. When the investigators arrived at the company in Zhengzhou, Henan, some staff were organizing network maintenance personnel to try to implant the "mining" program.
Subsequently, the task force sent another group of police to Shenzhen and arrested the company's legal representative Zhang.
Zhang confessed that in 2016, when he was accompanying his wife in the United States to wait for her baby, he found that virtual currency was very popular, and his company was facing losses. After returning to China, he discussed with other shareholders and developed this "mining" program.
In order to earn more profits, it is necessary to increase the implantation of this "mining" program. To this end, Zhang constantly recommended the "mining" business to the technical maintenance personnel who had worked with him, and used the commission as a "bait" to develop more than 2,000 downlines and illegally earn more than 100 million yuan.
At present, the 15 suspects involved in the case have been detained according to law, and all the computers, bank cards and vehicles involved in the case have also been seized.
