Gaza ceasefire talks failed again! Hamas and Israel are not satisfied

Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo failed to reach an agreement, with neither Hamas nor Israel agreeing to several compromises proposed by the mediators, casting a shadow on the chances of success of the latest effort to end the 10-month war.

US National Security Advisor Sullivan said at a press conference in Halifax, Canada that Washington is still "eagerly" working with the Egyptian and Qatari mediators and the Israeli side to try to reach a ceasefire agreement and resolve the hostage issue.

Key points of contention in the negotiations include Israel's presence in the so-called Philadelphia Corridor, a narrow strip of land about 14.5 kilometers long along Gaza's southern border with Egypt.

Egypt said the mediators proposed several alternatives to address the presence of Israeli troops in the Philadelphia Corridor and the "Netzarim Corridor" through the central Gaza Strip, but none of these solutions were accepted by the parties.

In addition, Israel expressed reservations about some Palestinian prisoners that Hamas demanded to be released, and demanded that if these hostages were released, they must leave the Gaza Strip.

Hamas said Israel withdrew its commitment to withdraw from the corridor and put forward other new conditions, including screening of displaced Palestinians returning to more densely populated areas in northern Gaza when the ceasefire begins.

"We will not accept discussions about revoking the content of the agreement reached on July 2 or putting forward new conditions," Hamas official Hamdan said on the group's Al-Aqsa TV on Sunday.

In July, Hamas accepted a US proposal to start negotiations on the release of Israeli hostages, including soldiers and civilians, 16 days after the first phase of the agreement aimed at ending the Gaza war was reached, Hamas sources told Reuters.

Hamdan also said that Hamas had submitted its response to the latest proposal to the mediators and called US claims that a deal was imminent untrue.

A Hamas delegation left Cairo on Sunday after meeting with mediators, with senior official Izzat El-Reshiq saying the group reiterated that any deal must provide for a permanent ceasefire and a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.#美联储何时降息? #BTC☀
