Telegram app founder Pavel Durov reportedly arrested at French airport

Pavel Durov, the billionaire co-founder and chief executive of the messaging app Telegram, was arrested at Bourget Airport near Paris on Saturday evening, TF1 reported, citing an unnamed source.

Durov was flying on his private jet, TF1 reported on its website, adding that he was the subject of an arrest warrant in France.

The 39-year-old is believed to have been travelling from Azerbaijan and was arrested at around 8pm local time (6pm GMT).

Durov was expected to appear in court on Sunday.

The Russian-born entrepreneur lives in Dubai, where Telegram is based, and has dual citizenship in France and the United Arab Emirates.
