The messaging network's CEO had a warrant out for his arrest as part of a felony investigation.
Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, was arrested at around 8pm on Saturday at Bourget airport outside Paris, French media confirmed.
Durov was travelling on board his private jet when he was arrested by the French Gendarmerie. The CEO of the messaging network had a warrant for his arrest as part of a felony investigation.
Durov, who holds dual French-Russian nationality, faces various charges including terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering, among others.
The French courts consider the instant messaging app's lack of cooperation with law enforcement to be a danger due to the tools it provides to criminals. These assumptions have led to the arrest of its CEO.
