If you're new to crypto and anything like I was, you might assume that when influencers talk about trades and investments, they are using the terms interchangeably. However, that's not the case. Crypto trading and crypto investing differ significantly in terms of strategy, time horizon, and risk.

Crypto Trading vs. Investing

Trading is a short term, high risk strategy focused on profit generation through market volatility. It necessitates active management and technical analysis. Traders often use leverage to magnify short term gains. Investing is a long term, relatively low risk approach centered on asset appreciation. It emphasizes fundamental analysis and passive management.

Experience

My recent attempt to trade "confidently," had me going back to the drawing board. Finding trade worthy tokens was difficult, however, NEAR, ALT, ATH, APT, did fit my requirements. However, I kept getting stopped out. The stop outs didnโ€™t continue their downward momentum against me. They returned back to their previous uptrend. I didnโ€™t know if it was from my own ineptness, market manipulation, or a by product of Bitcoin's 150+ day sideways price action. If thatโ€™s the case I should have moved to a range trading strategy. I didn't. Instead, I used the Gaussian trading strategy and finding trade worthy tokens is loads faster. To recap, to get a better understanding how the new strategy would behave, I took multiple trades. We aren't talking large sums of money, so each trade was either $50 or $100 with 3X leverage. I took XCN, ONT, ORN, COS, CVC, BICO, ALGO, RUNE, BLUR, APT, KEY, GLM, LUNC. All the trades are in profit and still running except for ORN. It oscillates between plus/minus $0.07. This may sound fortunate, but I have learned nothing. With the recent pump in Bitcoin's price, I don't know if my trade results are a result of the new strategy or a by product of Bitcoin's pump. It's a problem, but it's not a bad problem to have.ย

Strategy

Gaussian Channel Signal Entry Rules

-Wait for the Gaussian Channel to turn green

-You can enter a long position up to three 8-hour candle closes, after the channel turns green, above the top band

Volatility Confirmation

-Use Bollinger Band Width Percentile (BBWP) to measure volatility

-Look for BBWP lines crossing under the 10% mark and printing blue lines

-This signals a potential drastic change in market conditions

Trend Direction Confirmation

-Use Stochastic RSI to determine trend direction

-Enter long positions only when Stochastic RSI indicates an uptrend

-Enter short positions only when Stochastic RSI indicates a downtrend

Gaussian Channel Signal Exit Rules

-Implement a 5% trailing stop loss for all trades

-The stop loss will automatically adjust upward as the price moves in your favor

Multiple Entry Opportunities

-If you miss the initial entry after the Gaussian Channel turns green, you have up to three 8 hour candle closes to enter the trade

-Reassess all entry conditions (BBWP and Stochastic RSI) before entering at later candles

Additional Considerations

-Confluence of Signals: For stronger trade setups, look for all three conditions (Gaussian Channel, BBWP, and Stochastic RSI) to align simultaneously
