đšđ„ Shock in Malaysia: More than 900 Bitcoin mining equipment destroyed by the authorities! đ„đš
Malaysian authorities have struck a major blow by crushing over 900 Bitcoin mining machines with a steamroller! đ„ This spectacular operation was carried out to send a clear message: the crackdown on energy theft linked to cryptocurrency mining will continue unabated.
The Malaysian government has destroyed 985 mining machines, worth an estimated 1.98 million Malaysian ringgits (US$452,500), as part of a broader campaign to combat electricity theft associated with Bitcoin mining $BTC .
According to the Malaysia Gazette, the Perak Tengah district police destroyed the devices on Monday, following a court order. The machines had been seized during crackdowns since April 2022.
The move is part of a broader strategy to address power theft issues related to mining operations. Last week, Sepang district authorities arrested seven individuals for illegal Bitcoin mining activities involving power theft.
Last month, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, deputy minister of energy transition and water transformation, revealed that crypto miners in Malaysia had siphoned off a minimum of RM3.4 billion ($777 million) worth of electricity between 2018 and 2023.
Since Chinaâs complete ban on crypto mining operations in 2021, many operations have relocated to the United States and other countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, and Thailand. These Southeast Asian nations attract miners with their competitive electricity prices, skilled personnel, and well-developed infrastructure.
