Brazilian television icon, Silvio Santos passed away this Saturday (17), at the age of 93, after a few days in hospital.
At the helm of the broadcaster SBT, he led major movements for an open television channel, including integrating blockchain technology into its routine.
This is because, in August 2021, SBT launched its first NFTs, which stored the most memorable moments of Silvio Santos' career on the blockchain.
The SBT collection immortalized the image of the icon, which also saw new measures being taken in 2022. At the time, SBT decided to hold an auction of Silvio Santos' NFTs in a metaverse environment.
Thus, Silvio Santos showed that innovation was on his radar, being the first open TV channel in Brazil to launch NFTs and hold an auction in the metaverse.

In a post on SBT News, the editorial team issued a statement after confirming Silvio Santos' death. While thanking the presenter for everything he did, the team also emphasized that he will be eternal.

Who was Silvio Santos?
Silvio Santos, born on December 12, 1930, is one of the greatest icons of Brazilian television and one of the most successful businessmen in the country. He began his career as a street vendor in Rio de Janeiro, where he developed his communication and sales skills. Later, he began working as a radio announcer and then as a television presenter.
