🚀💥 Haven't heard of Saifedean Ammous yet? Hold on tight, because his story is a true odyssey that has shaken up the crypto world! 🌍💸

Saifedean’s story begins not with Bitcoin, but with the harsh realities of fiat currencies, the Petro Dollar, and the geopolitics that support them. Born in Palestine, Saifedean quickly became aware of the horrors of state-controlled money. His grandparents lost their land to Israel and had to flee with their hard-earned savings.

This experience forged his passion for politics and a keen understanding of economics. He observed how debt and loan systems, facilitated by institutions like the IMF, contributed to his situation.

But it was only after earning his doctorate from Columbia that he became an activist and writer. Saifedean wrote for the Columbia Spectator, defending Palestine and denouncing the responsibility of American taxpayers for Israel's aggression. His audacity earned him a mention in the prestigious New York Magazine.

The Path to Bitcoin

Saifedean's family history led him to seek alternatives to the fiat system. In 2007, he discovered Heidegger, gold and Austrian economics, a natural path for those who reject the traditional system dominated by Keynesians and bureaucrats.

However, when he first heard about Bitcoin in 2011, he was skeptical. In fact, between 2010 and 2013, Saifedean attempted to create a gold-backed cryptocurrency, believing that the world needed an open banking system using precious metals as reserves. But he realized that governments would not let individuals or entities circumvent their system.

So he continued to write about money and economics. His articles on Occupy Wall Street for the Center for Capitalism and Society caught the attention of Max Keiser, who offered him a spot on “The Keiser Report.” This was a turning point in his Bitcoin journey.

Saifedean delved deeper into the cryptocurrency universe, evaluating the major altcoins. He wrote a paper titled “Economics Beyond Financial Intermediation: Digital Currencies’ Potential for Growth, Poverty Alleviation, and International Development,” concluding that only Bitcoin could truly serve as a store of value. Thus began his journey as a die-hard Bitcoin maximalist.

The Bitcoin Standard: A Game Changer

The Bitcoin economics masterpiece The Bitcoin Standard has an unexpected culprit: Saifedean’s wife. After they married, she noticed how much time Saifedean spent arguing online about economics and suggested that instead of “writing stupid Facebook posts for three people,” he should use his mind better.

This prompted him to write his book in just three months. Since its publication in March 2018, it has sold over a million copies, been translated into a dozen languages, and is known as the “Bitcoin Bible.”

The book was a turning point. Microstrategy CEO Michael Saylor even cited it as the reason he bought 200,000 $BTC and called the book "genius," going so far as to write a foreword for a later edition.

Orange-Pilling the World

After The Bitcoin Standard, Saifedean’s influence continued to grow. He left his university position in 2019, investing his severance pay in Bitcoin when it was below $10,000.

Since then, Saifedean has been on a mission to “orange-loot” the world, taking on fiat economists and explaining to millions of people how the fiat system has caused centuries of war and poverty (including his own family) and how Bitcoin could offer a solution.

His legendary Twitter posts go beyond the most toxic performances.

Saifedean’s influence extends beyond economics, slowly expanding into the cultural and political spheres. He convinced Jordan Peterson to get involved, and Senator Cynthia Lummis was inspired by The Bitcoin Standard to push for the creation of a national strategic reserve of Bitcoin.

Not to mention El Salvador's President Bukele, who has become such a fan that he appointed Saifedean as an advisor. His country buys 1 BTC every day.

Today, Saifedean’s work continues to shape the Bitcoin narrative. There’s even a hotel in Germany that keeps The Bitcoin Standard in every room.

Of course, some of the more ambitious Bitcoin techies are trying to overtake Saifedean and undermine his contributions, but I bet that The Bitcoin Standard and Saifedean's work will stand the test of time.
