New malware, Styx Stealer, discovered, can steal cryptocurrencies via clipboard attack
According to TechFlow, cybersecurity solutions provider Check Point Research recently discovered a new malware called Styx Stealer, which can steal a large amount of data, including cryptocurrency through clipboard attacks.
It exploits a Microsoft Windows Defender vulnerability that was fixed last year and is protected against by the latest Windows systems. It is derived from an old malware called Phemedrone Stealer, but with new detection evasion techniques added.
Check Point Research found that the malware developers, likely based in Turkey, received around $9,500 in cryptocurrency payments via eight wallets in the first two months of operation.
