Franklin Templeton is preparing to submit a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) application on August 16 to enter the cryptocurrency investment field.
Franklin Crypto Index ETF is awaiting approval
The proposed name of the ETF is Franklin Crypto Index ETF, and it will provide investors with a broadly diversified cryptocurrency portfolio while tracking the performance of the CF Benchmark Digital Asset Index, which has so far included Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The fund will attempt to track the index by investing in these digital assets in a weighted proportion comparable to the index. However, it will be free to add more cryptocurrencies as the market matures and the regulatory framework improves.
The fund's digital assets will be custodied by Coinbase Custody Trust Company. Bank of New York Mellon will be responsible for managing cash and assuming related administrative responsibilities.
The Franklin Crypto Index ETF will trade on the Cboe BZX exchange under the ticker "EZPZ". However, it is particularly noteworthy that Cboe hopes to obtain approval to facilitate the physical creation and redemption of digital asset ETF shares, which may be intended to simplify the trading process.
Institutional interest in cryptocurrency ETFs continues
The move highlights the growing interest of institutions in cryptocurrency investment products. The Franklin Crypto Index ETF will enter a highly competitive market and compete with the Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index ETF, which is the first cryptocurrency index ETF to seek regulatory approval.
