Big things are coming!!! After the German government dumped Bitcoin
The US government followed closely and was ready to move!!!
According to U.Today, the US government sent nearly $600 million worth of Bitcoin to the Coinbase exchange on August 14.
Prior to this, the US Marshals Service signed a cooperation agreement with the largest US trading platform to store its confiscated Bitcoin. Many people believed that the US government simply sent these Bitcoins for safekeeping. However, Johnson is sure that these Bitcoins have been sold or will be sold soon.
He said in a social media post: “Given that the agreement requires USMS assets to remain completely isolated, whenever they are finally transferred to CB prime (or other mixed exchange addresses), you can be sure that USMS has sold or will be sold soon.”
Once the tokens arrive at the mixed address, it is “reasonable” to assume that they have been sold. “There is a large backlog of confiscated Bitcoins that should have been sold. Finalizing the service agreement seems to be (at least) one of the reasons for the delay,” Johnsson added. The legal analyst said the U.S. government sales will be confirmed in the January report on the Department of Justice’s asset forfeiture program FY2024.
According to data provided by Bitcoin Treasury, the U.S. government holds about $12.4 billion worth of Bitcoin. The Chinese government ranks second with $11.1 billion in holdings.
Earlier this year, the German government angered cryptocurrency enthusiasts with a massive Bitcoin sell-off.
