Telegram game TapSwap has attracted tens of millions of players in recent months ahead of its planned token launch and airdrop on The Open Network (TON). Now, the game has expanded to include a new city-building mode, in addition to its tap-to-earn mode.

Launched on Monday, Tappy Town is a new game mode available in the TapSwap mini app on Telegram that lets you upgrade and improve multiple buildings to unlock additional rewards.

Tappy Town ties into existing tap-to-earn elements in TapSwap, such as the ability to watch certain YouTube videos to earn in-game currency. Players will now also earn purple play buttons by watching videos, and these buttons can be used to upgrade one of the buildings, the TapFlix theater.

From there, players will begin earning passive in-game blocks by upgrading buildings, some of which are inspired by elements in the game or the TON ecosystem. Each building takes a certain amount of time to upgrade, with the wait time increasing with each higher level, although you will also earn gems that you can use to skip some of the wait times. TapSwap also sells gem packs.

The developers say “player performance will affect the reward size,” suggesting that this mode will be a deciding factor in airdrop claims.

TapSwap is continuing the recent trend of popular Telegram crypto games (like Hamster Kombat) expanding their core functionality to retain players before the token launch. The game’s token launch is planned for sometime this quarter.

Tappy Town offers TapSwap players a different gameplay experience to explore before the token launch. The game also recently added a token swap function, allowing players to exchange real onchain tokens such as TON and stablecoin USDT.
