A Tennessee man was arrested by the FBI on charges of helping North Koreans impersonate U.S. citizens and obtain remote work at U.S. and U.K. tech companies to raise money for North Korea’s weapons programs, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Matthew Isaac Knoot, 38, faces up to 20 years in prison for assisting North Koreans in using stolen identities to impersonate U.S. citizens, hosting company laptops at their residences, downloading and installing software without authorization, and laundering money for remote IT work.
