Preface

Due to the work of the editor-in-chief, I haven’t updated my articles for a while, because a lot of my thoughts have been placed on “CryptoCity” and the daily “Good Articles on Yatui”. It just so happens that "Web3Matters Matt Weekly" is going to publish the "GG21 Special Issue" this week, so I will take this opportunity to update the article content.

In addition, many new friends probably don’t know what Gitcoin is doing? Some people have even never heard of it? Let me briefly mention here that Gitcoin Grants is a quarterly funding program curated by the community, with the purpose of cultivating the next generation of high-impact builders for the Ethereum ecosystem.

You can think of it as a mechanism to support creators and developers through donations, so that those who build the ecosystem can get better resource allocation.

According to official statistics, since its launch in 2019, Gitcoin Grants has distributed more than $60 million to 270,000 unique backers in more than 3,700 projects.

GG21 Introduction

Gitcoin Grants 21 (GG21) is Gitcoin’s 21st funding program, focusing on ecosystem- and community-driven funding rounds to promote collaboration and empowerment. The campaign is open for applications July 24, with a donation period from August 7-21, offering up to $800,000 in matching funds. GG21 will not include the Open Source Software (OSS) program, which will run again at GG22.

This time, the Quadratic Funding method is also used. As for what is the Quadratic Funding method?

In short, it is an innovative fund allocation mechanism used to maximize the impact of small donations from the community.

In this model, the number of donations (how many people donate) is more important than the amount of donations. Specifically, when more people support a project, the project will receive more funding from the matching funding pool. This means that even a small donation, if it comes from many different people, could end up leading to a larger financial support for the project.

This approach is intended to promote broader community engagement and ensure that funding is more aligned with the wishes and needs of the overall community.

Okay, having said so much before, let’s take a formal look at the projects worth donating this time! There are not many projects this time, only 411 in total. I try to only pick 3 to 5 projects in each Rounds, so as to streamline the projects that everyone needs to know.

Of course, if you have time, it is still recommended to read all the Rounds that you are interested in!
