Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his vision for improving cross-chain compatibility between Ethereum layer-2 networks. He is confident that cross-layer compatibility issues will be resolved and the Ethereum ecosystem will become more integrated.

Buterin highlighted several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs):

  • EIP-3370: A new address standard for wallets and dApps that will be adapted to display chain-specific addresses with a human-readable prefix.

  • EIP-7683: Creating a standard way for different Ethereum Layer 2 networks to communicate and transact across chains.

  • EIP-3668: A Standardized Method for Ethereum Smart Contracts to Access Off-Chain Data.

  • Lightweight Tier 2 Clients: Standardizing off-chain data access to improve application development efficiency.

Buterin also noted the importance of "L2 cross-replayable account state updates" that help keep Layer 2 networks up to date with minimal latency.

Buterin emphasized that the future of interchain compatibility is associated with the transition to zk (zero-knowledge) technologies for all storage systems.

Earlier, investment manager VanEck predicted that the market cap of Ethereum L2 scalable networks will reach $1 trillion in six years.
