In order to promote the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the education sector, ICP Hub México, a subsidiary of Internet Computer (ICP), has partnered with Salvadoran bank DitoBanx to test Chain-Key Bitcoin (ckBTC) as a payment method in retail stores at the University of Aguascalientes, Mexico, the news was announced by the TecnoEmpresa portal.

“Through publications on social networks we want all of Latin America to take off in innovation and technology, adding allies for this is important for everyone, we welcome you to Ditobanx, this is just the first step to the top.”

According to the publication, through this initiative, more than 4,000 students will each receive 100 pesos in ckBTC, equivalent to $5.44, and students will be able to use the cryptocurrency in various operations within the university.

“This measure not only encourages the use of digital assets, but also provides young people with a more convenient and faster financial option without the need for bank procedures. Following the success of this pilot, the program will be expanded to other parts of the country, thereby democratizing access to digital finance,” the released information said.

What is ckBTC about?

Chain-Key Bitcoin (ckBTC) is a version of Bitcoin that, thanks to Internet computer technology, allows you to send and receive Bitcoins almost instantly, with an estimated time of between 1 and 2 seconds, and with minimal commissions.

“It’s like having a digital twin of Bitcoin, but with the advantage of being faster and more efficient,” the Internet Computer commented on its website.
