They Targeted the Wallets of 40 Thousand Altcoin Investors: Chinese Police Clarified!
Chinese police explained how former Huboi employees left 40 thousand customers on the exchange at risk.
Chinese police recently learned that former Huobi (HTX) employees decided to insert a Trojan horse program into a certain cryptocurrency wallet software in early March 2023 to obtain the private keys of 40 thousand users.
The individuals in question were caught by the police and sentenced to 3 years in prison and a ridiculous fine. The amount of assets in the wallets of these 40 thousand users was not disclosed.
Thanks to this Trojan horse operation, former employees of the exchange obtained more than 27,000 seed keys and more than 10,000 private keys, three of them illegally in total, and successfully compromised more than 19,000 cryptocurrency addresses.
In April 2024, the Xuhui District People's Court sentenced defendants Liu, Zhang, and Dong to three years in prison and a fine of 30,000 RMB ($4 thousand) for illegally obtaining computer information system data.
HTX stated that it is cooperating with the Shanghai Public Security Bureau in conducting investigations and collecting evidence.
