🇮🇳 India is increasing surveillance of cryptocurrency payments on the darknet to combat drug trafficking. Chief Minister Nityanand Rai revealed the strategy to reduce import and inter-state movement of drugs.
🔍 NCB records an increase in drug seizures related to darknet and cryptocurrency from 2022. A special task force has been established to monitor suspicious transactions.
📚 NCB also organizes training programs on digital forensics, darknet and cryptocurrency. Punjab leads in the number of drug trafficking cases from 2020-2022.
💬 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not mention cryptocurrencies in her 2024 budget speech, leaving the current tax rules unchanged.
🚫 Binance was blocked for not complying with anti-money laundering laws but has a chance to return if it pays a $2 million fine. Before the ban, Binance accounted for more than 90% of cryptocurrency trading volume in India.
