You wouldn't be blamed for thinking that Pixelverse is just an upstart trying to get into the rapidly expanding world of crypto gaming on Telegram – but there's actually more to it than that.

Pixelverse with its PixelTap is based on the ideas of Notcoin and Hamster Kombat, promising future profits from another variation of screen tapping. However, Pixelverse's plans for the future are much more ambitious, with the goal of building a large-scale crypto game franchise.

There's a long way to go, but as with most things in this space, it may be worthwhile for interested parties to get involved early in the project. Here's everything you need to know about Pixelverse.

What is Pixelverse?

Pixelverse is a cyberpunk game ecosystem that will include multiple blockchain games across a variety of platforms. Currently, there is a game on Telegram called PixelTap that has attracted tens of millions of players, and an upcoming browser-based game that is described as a mission-based fighting game.

This browser-based game is where the majority of the Pixelverse project will appear, with PixelTap serving as a simple way to draw players into the ecosystem while the main game is in development. PixelTap is the spearhead to attract players' interest.

There's the promise of craftable digital collectibles that you can trade on a custom marketplace between players, a staking system for Pixelverse's tokens, and most importantly: a fun to play, complete with quests, multiple realms, and both player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) combat.

Pixelverse also plans to launch an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible layer 2 network for The Open Network, on which it has launched its token.

This is an ambitious plan, especially with a newly launched token. But with $13 million in total investment this year and advisors from companies like Riot Games and The Sandbox, Pixelverse's team has the resources to try to realize those goals.

What is PixelTap?

PixelTap is the first game in the Pixelverse, following the recent trend of Telegram tap to earn games. In this game, most of the screen tapping will take place in PvP battles, where you take your upgradeable pets into battle against other players.

During battle, a part of your opponent's pet will be highlighted and you need to touch that part as quickly as possible to deal damage with each touch. After a few seconds, this area will change, so you have to constantly focus on where you tap to make sure you're dealing damage and getting past your opponents.

Between each match, screen tapping will stop and both you and your opponent will choose one corner of the screen to defend and one corner to attack the opponent. If you defend the exact square your opponent attacks, you will block the damage. If they don't block your attack, you'll deal massive damage and usually win.

Winning the match will give you more in-game currency, which you can use to upgrade your pet or buy a new pet if the current pet does not meet the requirements.

Compared to some of the simpler Telegram games, PixelTap requires more thought and has real PvP combat, providing a challenge rather than just being a pointless tapping game. This is a welcome improvement over most “tap to earn” games.

What is PIXFI token?

Of course, Pixelverse has a token called PIXFI, which launched on July 18 and is listed on several major exchanges like Bybit and Kucoin.

PIXFI has a total supply of five billion tokens and, when the browser game launches, will be used for a variety of purposes such as trading, crafting and combat – although specific details have yet to be revealed.

PIXFI will serve as the game's paid token and be used for all transactions in Pixelverse, accompanied by deflation mechanisms to ultimately reduce the total token supply.

Along with the token launch, Pixelverse also revealed how the airdrop will work. PixelTap players will be rewarded with an NFT based on their in-game level, with rare, epic, and legendary NFT owners able to claim a certain amount of PIXFI tokens. NFTs can be claimed starting July 25.

However, those who claimed the tokens immediately received only 10% of the total. If they want to get more, or the full amount, they need to continue playing PixelTap and interacting with the Pixelverse console over time.

“This innovative system rewards users based on their actions similar to how battle passes in Web2 games work,” the announcement said, “meaning the more Pixelverse products are used , the more PIXFI tokens you can withdraw.”
