According to TechFlow, Indian crypto trading platform WazirX released the preliminary results of the attack. WazirX said that one of the platform's multi-signature wallets suffered a cyber attack, with a loss of more than $230 million.
Since February 2023, the wallet has been operating using Liminal's digital asset custody and wallet infrastructure services. The report said the cyberattack stemmed from the discrepancy between the data displayed on the Liminal interface and the actual content of the transaction. During the cyberattack, the information displayed on the Liminal interface did not match what was actually signed. WazirX suspects that the payload was replaced to transfer control of the wallet to the attacker.
WazirX finally stated: “This is a force majeure event beyond the team’s control, but the team is doing its best to find and recover the funds. The team has frozen some deposits and contacted the relevant wallets for recovery.”
