Cypherpunk Holdings has significantly increased its Solana (SOL) holdings, according to an announcement on Tuesday. The publicly traded investment firm headquartered in Toronto, Canada currently holds more than 63,000 SOLs, worth nearly $14 million, up from 6,131 SOLs last month.
At the end of the first quarter of 2024, the company did not hold any tokens. In addition to purchasing SOL, the company also announced that it will operate its own Solana validator and stake 49,917 tokens (worth approximately $11 million), the majority of its token holdings, using a node. Leah Wald, founder and former CEO of crypto fund pioneer Valkyrie Investments, joined Cypherpunk as chief executive officer in early July. She previously sat on the board of directors. .
“The Solana ecosystem is offering many exciting opportunities,” Wald said in an interview with The Block. “There is a lot of on-chain community activity at the moment and I believe the growth of a blockchain can be directly linked to community and developer activity.”
SOL has increased about 2% to $160 in the past 24 hours, according to Bitcoin Magazine's price page.
Wald said Cypherpunk's largest investment is in Bitcoin, which it began buying in April 2019, the year the company went public on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker HODL.
Last month, the company revealed that it had begun investing in Solana, purchasing approximately $1 million in cryptocurrency at an average price of $163.11 per coin. Around the same time, Cypherpunk sold nearly $1 million in shares in Hong Kong-based metaverse company Animoca Brands.
Valkyrie, the first company to launch a bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund on Nasdaq, has amassed $1.3 billion in assets under management under Wald's leadership. CoinShares International exercised its option to acquire the company in January.
Cypherpunk's total assets have increased $14.3 million to $31.3 million over the past six months, according to the company's latest financial report. They use Coinbase as custodian for BTC and SOL, and have investments in Chia Network, hardware wallet NGRAVE, and the bitcoin mining sector, among other capital investments.
