The head of Matter Labs has proposed creating the "Supreme Court of #Ethereum," which would serve as the final stage in disputes over smart contracts.
"The most important function of such a system will be to protect protocols from external political interference. This will be an excellent mechanism of restraint and will enhance Ethereum's role as a powerful network state," said Glukhovsky, the CEO of #Matter $ Labs.
In his view, the risks associated with the implementation of smart contracts remain the most significant unsolved problem of second-layer solutions.
According to the co-founder of Matter Labs, disputes and questions about emergency updates will be resolved by a hierarchical system of network courts. However, the last level will be the #Ethereum soft fork as an appellate body.
In such a system, each protocol will have its own governance mechanisms for appealing to the network court. Glukhovsky emphasized that a deposit will be required to file a "claim." However, the developer acknowledged that strong community consensus would be necessary for the system to function. Additionally, this initiative will come at a significant cost, so the court will only be able to consider "truly extraordinary" cases.
Glukhovsky noted that several similar solutions already exist, but he believes they are ineffective.
"The #Security Council could only temporarily freeze the contract, requiring token management approval for emergency updates. But now, a malicious majority of stakers can upgrade and steal all assets," he explained.
Glukhovsky added that, together with the zkSync team, they would be "happy" to fund research into this initiative.
Recall that in July, Matter Labs developers introduced a new Boojum proof system based on the #STARK protocol.
Previously, the project created ZK Stack, a modular set of tools for building Hyperchains networks on top of and alongside the #zkSync Era.$ETH
