Stablecoin company Circle has received an Electronic Monetary Institution (EMI) license, a prerequisite for offering dollar- and euro-pegged crypto tokens in the European Union under the Markets for Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework.
Circle, whose USDC is the largest dollar stablecoin after Tether's market-leading USDT, claims to be the first global stablecoin issuer compliant with MiCA.
With an EMI license from the French banking regulator, Circle Mint France will issue its euro-pegged stablecoin EURC in the EU and offer USDC to clients in the 27-nation trading bloc.
