On April 28, 2024, Dr. Duncan Wong, the founder of Abelian, announced the Layer2 solution for the Abelian ecosystem in a Binance Live session with Meta Moonshots. Since then, details of Abelian Layer 2, called “QDAY”, have been widely shared through various offline events, conferences, and Twitter Space.

Today's article integrates all the information about Layer 2 so far. After reading it, you will understand why QDay is so worth looking forward to.

The name of Layer2 is QDAY

QDay is expected to be a major global cybersecurity event, where quantum computers could potentially crack any security code. Business Insider noted that "it will be a major turning point in the way the world thinks about digital privacy, as it could put confidential information at risk of exposure."

While there is no consensus on when QDay will appear — some predict 2025, others say it could be "mid-century" — it has the potential to crack the code that encrypts data on public networks and the information security of banks, government agencies and large companies.

The potential impact of QDay was highlighted last February when Tilo Kunz, executive vice president of Quantum Defense (QD5), said that “machines far more powerful than today’s fastest supercomputers will be able to crack the codes that protect nearly all modern communications.”

To raise public awareness of the expected impact of quantum computing and celebrate its development, Abelian’s Layer 2 has named it QDay to reflect the importance and transformative potential of this upcoming technology.

QDay is resistant to quantum attacks and uses ZKP Rollups

Like its predecessor, Abelian Chain Layer 1, QDay is also quantum-resistant. Abelian Layer 1 has strong quantum-resistant security through lattice-based cryptographic schemes, specifically Crystals Kyber and algorithms inspired by Crystals Dilithium. These cryptographic algorithms are approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to resist attacks by quantum computers, which can break traditional encryption methods.

QDay will leverage the advanced security features of Abelian Layer 1 by utilizing Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) Rollups. These rollups bundle multiple transactions into a single proof that is verified on the blockchain. This increases transaction throughput while maintaining high security and privacy standards. Zero-knowledge proofs allow verification without revealing the underlying data, ensuring the confidentiality of transaction data.

ZKP-Rollups are not only secure, but also efficient and cost-effective. They reduce the computational and storage burden of the blockchain, thereby reducing transaction fees and speeding up processing times. This efficiency is critical to the widespread adoption of decentralized applications and services, making blockchain more accessible and user-friendly.

In addition, QDay's integration with the Abelian Layer 1 security protocol ensures a seamless and interoperable ecosystem. Developers and users can trust that their assets and transactions are protected from future quantum threats while benefiting from the network's enhanced performance and scalability. By combining quantum-resistant cryptography with state-of-the-art scalable solutions, QDay positions itself as a leader in the next generation of secure and efficient blockchain technology.

QDay is EVM compatible

An EVM-compatible chain refers to a blockchain network that follows the same standards and protocols as the Ethereum blockchain, enabling it to run Ethereum smart contracts and DApps with minimal modifications. This compatibility allows developers to leverage the existing Ethereum ecosystem and tools, facilitating easier deployment and interoperability across multiple chains.

Given the ubiquity of Ethereum DApps and the growing popularity of multi-chain development strategies, EVM compatibility is critical. It enhances interoperability, encourages developer participation, amplifies network effects, and promotes code reuse across the blockchain ecosystem. This will provide a more vibrant and collaborative environment for creating decentralized applications and services.

Abelian is committed to protecting crypto assets from the threat of quantum computers, such as HNDL, and aims to launch a user-friendly quantum-resistant blockchain for wider use. By integrating quantum-resistant technology and maintaining EVM compatibility, Abelian hopes to enhance blockchain security and ensure smooth integration for developers and users, thereby creating a secure and interconnected blockchain landscape for the future.

QDay uses the PoS consensus mechanism

QDay will solve the challenges faced by the original Abel network, such as large block size and slow transaction speed. The new Layer 2 will run on the PoS consensus mechanism, which is fast and scalable. The QDay chain, currently in beta, can handle up to 1,000 transactions per second — a significant improvement over the Layer 1 Abelian chain’s 0.1 transactions per second. This also means that community holders will be able to pledge ABEL ($ABEL).

QDay will have its own token and ecosystem

The Abelian chain will continue its tradition of quantum-resistant proof-of-work, producing Digital Gold 2.0, the Abelian coin ($ABEL). The layer 2 QDay chain will become part of the Abelian ecosystem, providing new value through various smart contract-enabled dApps. For users who invest in DeFi or purchase goods within the Abelian ecosystem, the new token $QDAY will be used to secure the ecosystem through staking and for daily operations such as transaction posting.

QDay will serve as a bridge to achieve more community applicability for $ABEL on the Abelian chain. Users will be able to stake $ABEL and earn $QDAY tokens for use in the Layer 2 ecosystem. In addition, transaction fees (gas fees) will become a new business model in the current Abelian roadmap.

Stay tuned for the release of $QDay token economics.

Expectations grow

With its strong security features, enhanced scalability, and seamless interoperability, QDay is poised to revolutionize the Abelian ecosystem. The team and community are eagerly awaiting how these advancements will unlock new opportunities for decentralized applications and services.

Combining state-of-the-art quantum-resistant technology with the adoption of a PoS consensus mechanism reflects Abelian’s commitment to innovation and security. Our excitement is growing as we approach launch.

Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to the launch of QDay. The future of blockchain technology is here, and Abelian is leading the way. With QDay, usher in a new era of quantum-resistant, scalable, and interoperable blockchain solutions.
