Mech shooter MetalCore is moving to Solana
Game development company Studio369 is migrating its mech shooter #metalcore to the Solana blockchain.
According to an October 24 #announcement , the migration aims to improve the gaming experience through faster transactions on the blockchain. The Solana blockchain currently processes an average of about 3,000 transactions per second, one of the key metrics for measuring network performance.
MetalCore will also utilize Solana Labs' GameShift platform, which integrates the store and payment systems for in-game purchases. The game - a free open world with player versus player (PvP) and player versus environment (PvE) battles - allows users to collect assets from defeated opponents and convert them into Web3 assets for trading.
“Solana's high bandwidth ensures that all game activities requiring interaction with the blockchain will be nearly instantaneous,” the game developer said in a statement.
Other games in Studio369's portfolio include Rune II.
The Solana (SOL) network is attracting more protocols looking to improve scalability at lower costs, with gaming and decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) protocols migrating to the blockchain.
In April, MetaBlox's Roam network, which focuses on decentralized hotspots with location confirmation and WiFi, announced a move to Solana, citing faster transaction speeds and scalability. Earlier in 2023, decentralized wireless protocol Helium also migrated to Solana$SOL

According to blockchain data platform Artemis Terminal, the monthly number of active Solana addresses surpassed 100 million in early October, setting a new record for the network and representing a significant increase from the 509,000 addresses tracked in early 2024.
Solana has experienced several significant periods of downtime over the past few years, and these outages have raised concerns about its reliability. The most recent outage, which lasted about five hours, occurred on February 6, 2024. The Solana Foundation plans to roll out a full version of the Firedancer update in 2025, and in the meantime “stripped-down versions” will be released to accommodate its growing activity.
