Kazakh authorities returned $500,000 worth of bitcoin pyramid assets to the country
Employees of the AFM Kazakhstan tracked the assets of the Eolus cryptocurrency pyramid worth 250 million tenge (over $520,000), stolen from almost 2,500 citizens across the country.
The investigation into the fraudulent fundraising continued for several months. The attackers transferred all the assets received from investors between a large number of transit crypto wallets.
The agency was able to track the transactions and ensure the funds were returned to the country. Now the cryptocurrencies are in a special account of the AFM, they will be reimbursed to the victims.
The defendant was sentenced to six years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to engage in brokerage activities for a period of five years.
