WallStreetBets founder Jaime Rogozinski has taken a shot at the Shiba Inu (SHIB) community, questioning the real impact of token burns on the coin's supply. In a recent tweet, he pointed out that SHIB's total supply remains virtually unchanged, suggesting the focus should shift from burning tokens to boosting their actual value and utility.
📉 Rogozinski: Burning Isn't Enough
On April 11, Rogozinski tweeted that despite consistent burn efforts, the overall SHIB supply hasn’t significantly changed. While burning tokens may look good on paper, he believes its impact is minimal so far.
Instead, he urges the SHIB community to focus on creating utility and strengthening the ecosystem, arguing that demand-driven value is more sustainable than relying solely on reducing token supply.
🔥 How Much SHIB Has Been Burned?
Let’s break down the numbers:
🔹 SHIB launched in August 2020 with a total supply of 1 quadrillion tokens
🔹 Around 410.75 trillion SHIB have been burned — approximately 41% of total supply
🔹 However, 410 trillion of those tokens were burned in one single transaction by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in 2021
🔹 Since then, the community has only managed to burn less than 1 trillion SHIB
In short — most of the burn numbers come from Buterin’s historic move, not from ongoing community efforts.
🧠 Kusama: Real Value Comes from Real Use
Shiba Inu project lead Shytoshi Kusama echoes a similar message. While he supports SHIB burns, he believes they are not the primary driver of price growth.
His philosophy: If SHIB becomes truly useful, no one will want to burn it. That’s why the team is laser-focused on real-world utility, rather than symbolic reductions in supply.
🌐 Shiba Inu Ecosystem: From Games to Metaverse
Instead of relying solely on burns, the SHIB team is developing a full-fledged ecosystem to drive adoption and utility:
🔹 Shibarium – a Layer 2 blockchain where a portion of fees goes toward burning SHIB
🔹 ShibaSwap – a decentralized exchange
🔹 Shiba Eternity – collectible card game
🔹 SHIB: The Metaverse – digital world project
🔹 Shib Marketplace – an upcoming marketplace
Shibarium alone has already removed over 50 billion SHIB from circulation. The process is now automated through the burn portal "Shib Torch".
🧨 SHIB Card Game Contest Could Burn 10 Billion Tokens Daily
To further support burns, the team launched a collectible card game contest in February. According to the project, it could burn up to 10 billion SHIB per day, marking one of the most aggressive burn strategies to date.
🧩 Bottom Line: Burning Isn't Enough — Build Real Value
While many community members continue to champion token burns, voices like Rogozinski's and Kusama's highlight a deeper truth: Burning alone won’t save the token. Real-world value and adoption will.
