During a Bloomberg TV interview on Wednesday, SEC Chair Gary Gensler repeated his assertion that crypto is “rife with bad actors.” Gensler told Bloomberg that he splits the industry into two, one being bitcoin and "everything else." "I've been around finance for over four decades, and everything in the markets trade on a mixture of fundamentals and sentiment at any given time," Gensler said. "But I've never seen a field that's so much wrapped up in sentiment and not so much about fundamentals."

Trump is considering at least six candidates for the CFTC chairmanship to promote his promised crypto-friendly regulatory environment. Candidates include CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger, a16z crypto policy head Brian Quintenz, former Kraken chief legal officer Marco Santori, as well as Republican Commissioner Caroline Pham, former CFTC senior officials Neal Kumar and Josh Sterling.

Two U.S. public companies announced plans to buy large amounts of Bitcoin. Thumzup Media, a Los Angeles-based social media marketing company, announced its first purchase of Bitcoin for about $1 million, planning to put 90% of its liquid assets into Bitcoin. The company also plans to start paying contract workers in Bitcoin. KULR Technology Group in San Diego bought $21 million worth of Bitcoin, bringing its total holdings to $42 million.

The NFT series backed by US President-elect Donald Trump has launched its first 160 pieces on the Bitcoin network using the Ordinals protocol, called "Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards." Users who receive 100 NFT cards from the "Mugshot Edition" are eligible to claim them through the NFT marketplace Magic Eden after submitting their Bitcoin wallet.
