Sky Mavis, the developer of Axie Infinity, will lay off 21% of its workforce. According to TechInAsia, this layoff is expected to affect about 50 employees out of a global team of approximately 250 members.
"CEO and co-founder Trung Nguyen wrote in an X post last Saturday: "I want to make it clear that this decision has nothing to do with the company's budget or financial health." This is a strategic move that will allow Sky Mavis to focus more and position itself for super-fast growth in 2025 and beyond," Nguyen wrote.
Nguyen said that the layoffs reflect a "shift in focus" and listed the company's main future priorities, including expanding the Ronin network and wallet services, Mavis Marketplace, Axie Infinity, and developing a new Axie Infinity game.
