The investigation into the murder of Kevin Mirshahi, a young cryptocurrency influencer, continues as Quebec police announce the arrest of two more suspects.
Darius Perry (27) and Nackael Hickey (25) have been charged with kidnapping and complicity in Mirshahi’s alleged murder, according to Canadian broadcaster CBC. Previously, Joanie Lepage (32) was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Timeline of Events
Mirshahi went missing on June 21 after being abducted along with three others from a luxury apartment in Old Montreal. Police responded to a 911 call reporting disturbances at the property, but while the other abductees were found hours later near a bus stop in western Montreal, Mirshahi remained missing.
Four months later, on October 30, his body was discovered in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville neighborhood. Investigators believe the murder occurred at a house in Les Cèdres, a town in the Montérégie region identified during the investigation.
A burnt-out SUV, suspected to have been used in the abduction, was also found during the inquiry.
Mirshahi's Connection to Cryptocurrency
Mirshahi (25) was a prominent figure in Montreal’s cryptocurrency community. He ran a private Telegram group called “Crypto Paradise Island” with over 2,500 members and actively promoted investment opportunities on social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.
Quebec’s financial regulator, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), began investigating Mirshahi in 2021. Restrictions were imposed on him and his associates, prohibiting them from acting as investment advisors or engaging in securities transactions.
After his disappearance in July 2024, the AMF tightened these restrictions and ordered the removal of certain social media posts. Authorities are now investigating how Mirshahi's crypto business and legal troubles may have intersected with his death. However, police have yet to disclose a motive for the murder.
Mirshahi’s Death: 32nd Homicide in Montreal in 2024
Mirshahi’s death marks the 32nd homicide in Montreal in 2024. Investigators are piecing together clues to understand the connection between his cryptocurrency activities and his tragic demise.
