Cryptocurrency Political Action Committee Targets Wisconsin in Latest Media Buy Before U.S. Election Day
The Fairshake #Cryptocurrency Political Action Committee (PAC) has announced that it will support Republican candidates in Wisconsin as part of its latest spending before U. S. Election Day.
According to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission on October 28, Fairshake has spent more than $760,000 on media buys in support of Wisconsin Congressman Brian Steil, who is seeking re-election in the state's 1st Congressional District. With just seven days to go before U. S. voters elect their congressional representatives and president, this expenditure on Congressman Steil is likely one of Fairshake's last moves before Election Day.
Staile, who will serve as Wisconsin's elected representative beginning in 2019, previously voted for the 21st Century Financial Innovation and Technology Act and voted in favor of the resolution to repeal SEC Accounting Bulletin 121.
November 5, he will face Democrat Peter Barca, who has a three-point lead over Mr. Steele, according to an October poll.
Republicans have a narrow majority in the House, but that could change in January, when all 435 seats are up for election.
PACs like FairShake have raised millions of dollars from cryptocurrency companies and executives to support cryptocurrency lawmakers or to oppose candidates who are seen as unfriendly to the industry. The Wisconsin race is just one of several in which a tight race is expected. In October, polls showed a tight race for the U. S. presidency between Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. Both candidates have said they plan to support the crypto industry if elected.
