Elon Musk Removes Bitcoin Emoji from Hashtag on X
In a surprising development, Elon Musk has removed the orange Bitcoin emoji from the hashtag on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. This change, first reported by WatcherGuru, has puzzled the crypto community, with many questioning the reasons behind it.
Previously, the hashtag #Bitcoin in tweets would display an orange Bitcoin symbol, a recognizable marker for Bitcoin discussions. Its sudden removal has sparked significant reactions, with many users demanding the emoji's return. Some speculate this move signals the end of the bull run, urging others to exit the market. One user suggested replacing the Bitcoin emoji with an XRP symbol, while another proposed using $SHIB emoji.
Despite mixed reactions, Fact Protocol and Nexo have launched the Bitcoin Emoji Initiative, proposing to the Unicode Consortium to add the Bitcoin emoji to global keyboards. If approved, the emoji will be available on all PCs and mobile devices by November.
Neither X nor Elon Musk has officially commented on the removal. Speculations abound that Musk may be distancing himself from Bitcoin, reminiscent of his past actions with Tesla’s brief acceptance of BTC. Musk's evolving vision for X as an "everything app" includes obtaining payment transmitter licenses for fiat transactions, with no plans to incorporate cryptocurrencies.
