XRP, central to a crucial legal battle, has led the recent crypto price surge amid speculation that Ripple might settle with US regulators soon.
Ripple-SEC Dispute
XRP rallied over 40% this week, reaching $0.6161, its highest since April. The overall market saw a 12% increase. The SEC's 2020 lawsuit against Ripple claims it conducted an “unregistered securities offering” via XRP sales.
Last July, a judge ruled XRP sales to retail investors weren't investment contracts, a setback for the SEC. A “closed meeting” on July 18 on the SEC’s website has fueled settlement speculation, though former SEC lawyer Marc Fagel and pro-XRP lawyer Fred Rispoli doubt a pre-judgment settlement.
Rispoli predicts Judge Analisa Torres might impose a penalty under $25 million, contrary to the SEC's $102.6 million request, with Ripple proposing $10 million.
XRP Price Outlook
Crypto analyst Dark Defender notes XRP could see explosive gains if it surpasses $0.6649, potentially rising to $18-$36. XRP has crossed its 200-day EMA, a significant resistance level.
