Tether, the company behind $USDT, is under increasing scrutiny for alleged links to major illicit transactions.

On July 3 in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong, a 3-year-old boy was abducted from a shopping mall. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 660,000 USDT (around HK$5.15 million) and instructed the parents to use the Telegram app and purchase the ransom from an offline OTC store, warning them not to contact the police.

The Hong Kong Police Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) quickly investigated. Reviewing CCTV footage from Tseung Kwan O Plaza and nearby areas, they located the boy unharmed and arrested the suspects by 5:25 a.m. on July 4.
