A team of hackers has finally unlocked a $3 million Bitcoin wallet after the owner forgot his password for 11 years. Electrical engineer Joe Grand, known as ‘Kingpin,’ was hired to hack into the encrypted file containing 43.6 BTC, protected by a lost password generated by Roboform.

The anonymous owner, who had been paranoid about security, sought Grand's help after Grand's reputation for recovering lost cryptocurrency. Grand used a tool from the US National Security Agency to disassemble the password generator’s code, ultimately recreating the password by resetting the system time to 2013.

Grand and his colleague generated millions of potential passwords and successfully cracked the code, which Grand described as "ultimately lucky."
