We are aware of the detention of our Binance employee in Nigeria – USA

The United States has said it is aware of reports of the detention of its citizen in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. Last month, the CEO of Binance, Tigran Gambaryan was arrested along with his partner, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who has British and Kenyan passports as part of the Nigerian government's tax evasion investigation into the cryptocurrency company.

The spokesperson of the American Embassy in Nigeria, said that, "Whenever there is a problem with the custody of their citizen in another country, the embassy in that country does everything possible to provide the necessary assistance."

The embassy declined to provide details about the child's detention, saying it was for privacy reasons. Now Nadeem Anjarwalla is not in the hands of Nigeria after the country's authorities confirmed that he escaped, but a source close to him said that he left Nigeria in the right way.

The Nigerian authorities said they are working with the security forces to issue a warrant for Mr Anjarwalla. On the other hand, the Nigerian authorities took the company to court where they filed charges related to tax evasion.
