According to PANews, OpenAI has expressed opposition to a proposed California bill aimed at regulating advanced AI models. The company released an open letter on Wednesday, criticizing the 'Safe and Reliable Frontier AI Model Innovation Act' introduced by local legislator Wiener. OpenAI argues that the bill could threaten California's future growth, slow down innovation, and drive away world-class engineers and entrepreneurs from the state. The company suggests that AI model regulation should be handled at the federal level rather than locally.

Jason Kwon, OpenAI's Chief Strategy Officer, stated in the letter that the SB-1047 bill, spearheaded by Wiener, would harm innovation within the AI industry. OpenAI believes that if the bill is passed, it could have 'broad and significant' impacts on the United States' AI competitiveness and national security.
