According to Odaily, the Celo Foundation has announced the launch of Celo L2 Testnet Dango, a significant step by core contributor cLabs in introducing an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible standalone blockchain into Ethereum. The plan was first proposed during EthCC 2023, intending to fork the Alfajores test network to Dango, allowing ecosystem developers to begin transitioning their projects to the latest iteration of the blockchain built for the real world and designed for fast, low-cost global payments.

With the launch of Dango today, all historical data of Alfajores, including smart contracts, accounts, and balances, will be preserved and carried forward. The testnet is built on Optimism's OP Stack, and with the strategic funding of the Eigen Foundation to the Celo community and the community's support for cLabs' subsequent governance proposals, the Celo L2 testnet uses EigenDA as an alternative data availability layer to maintain low transaction fees.
