OpenAI's social network X account HACKED! Hackers hacked OpenAI's official X social network account to promote the fake token $OPEANAI and promised users early access to the artificial intelligence (AI) company's future beta programs. The scammers published a message full of grammatical errors, which were also present in the token's name - $OPEANAI, instead of $OPENAI. In fact, the company did not launch the token with either name. The published links led to token-openai.com, a phishing site designed to steal cryptocurrency wallet credentials. The attackers' message has already been deleted, but it was read by thousands of users. Shortly before the incident, an OpenAI security officer published an internal memo for employees, warning them about the increasing number of OpenAI account hacks. Recommendations for improving account security were also published. Despite the warnings, the hack was not avoided. It is assumed that the official OpenAI account was compromised by the same cryptojackers who had previously hacked the accounts of the company's management. In June 2023, the account of OpenAI CTO Mira Murati was hacked - hackers also promoted the fictitious token $OPENAI. And just three months ago, the accounts of OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki and OpenAI researcher Jason Wei were hacked. Their accounts posted similar fraudulent messages. According to Scam Sniffer analysts, the number of fake accounts on platform X related to cryptocurrencies decreased in August. However, phishers began to use more sophisticated attacks - in August alone, they stole $63 million worth of cryptocurrencies.
