According to Odaily, Zambia is moving forward with the implementation of regulations that prohibit the use of foreign currencies, including the US dollar, for local transactions. The Bank of Zambia has released a draft document to the public outlining measures aimed at strengthening the use of the country's legal currency, the Kwacha.

The document proposes a maximum ten-year imprisonment for the use of currencies other than the Kwacha, and hefty fines for citizens who violate these regulations. These rules are expected to be officially established by the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Planning, and could potentially affect the way Zambians and tourists conduct trade in the country.
