Tech and blockchain firm Serenity partnered with payment and connectivity company IDEMIA Secure Transactions to jointly launch the biometric security card sAxess.

According to a Nov. TK announcement, sAxess aims to improve access control, security and credential recovery processes. The partnership leverages IDEMIA’s connections and expertise in connectivity and payment solutions to bring Serenity’s blockchain services to its 1,900 financial and fintech clients.

The partner companies hope that the card in question will meet the demands for secure and scalable data management solutions by industries and individuals who manage digital assets and systems involving digital assets. SAxess will be launched globally before the end of December.

The card leverages fingerprint authentication and other biometrics to ensure that it only authenticates authorized individuals. This is different from traditional authentication smart cards that only check if the individual has access to the card — which made them particularly suitable for multi-factor authentication.

The sAxess card also leverages IDEMIA’s B.CHAIN hardware wallet allowing users to control their digital assets without engaging a third-party custodian. It also implements Serenity’s patent-pending data recovery technology, which allows data access under predefined conditions.

The data recovery solution uses a non-fungible token (NFT) as digital credentials, allowing users to set specific conditions such as inheritance for authorized data access. Serenity CEO Venket Naga said:

“We are looking to a new era in data security, with increasingly complex and frequent digital threats targeting individuals and organizations of all sizes. [...] By merging cutting-edge biometric capabilities with our blockchain solutions, we are ensuring that individuals and businesses can access and manage their sensitive data with unprecedented security and ease.”

This is far from Serenity’s first product, with its previous offerings also heavily focusing on security and privacy. The company previously launched a private data storage and transfer solution with verified credentials support sBox and enterprise data security solution sVault.
