EigenLayer restaking platform and EigenDA data availability layer debut on Ethereum mainnet
EigenLayer and EigenDA were recently launched on the Ethereum mainnet, providing restakers the ability to delegate their entire stake and operators the option to run an actively validated service. EigenLayer allows staking for ether and earning a liquid staking token, which can be restaked for additional rewards through EigenPod. The ecosystem is evolving, with expectations of new operators, delegations, and AVSs coming online. The mainnet launch lacks in-protocol payments to operators or slashing, as EigenLayer aims to stabilize before introducing these features. EigenLayer has over $13.4 billion TVL, surpassing $10 billion on March 3, 2024. EigenDA, launched in Sept. 2023, focuses on reducing data storage costs for Ethereum Layer 2 rollups, benefiting various decentralized applications. Andreessen Horowitz invested $100 million in EigenLayer's developer, EigenLabs, earlier this year.
