According to Foresight News: Richard Teng, the former chief of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), is reportedly the leading candidate to become the next chairman of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX). Sources familiar with the matter said that the discussions are taking place internally, and Teng is expected to succeed Laura Cha as the chairman of HKEX and its clearing company at the annual shareholders' meeting in April next year. However, the final decision on the next chairman has not yet been made.
Teng, 74, has been a vocal critic of cryptocurrencies, openly opposing the government's crypto-friendly policy agenda. He has stated that he would not purchase any digital assets that do not even have a balance sheet and has compared cryptocurrency trading to gambling in a casino.
