Allegations have surfaced in Iran that a surge in unauthorized Bitcoin mining operations is contributing to massive power outages in the capital Tehran and surrounding areas. According to BeinCrypto, illicit miners are utilizing an estimated 230,000 devices to engage in cryptocurrency mining. While the government has not explicitly attributed the recent blackouts to Bitcoin mining, citing other causes, many believe it is a significant factor in the ongoing energy crisis.
