Yesterday, was a good wake up call on why we need to pull profits regularly. I'm super glad I did, but I also need to more regularly. Its definitely a hard thing to do, as we get super greedy and think the run up will never end. In my life time and through my journey, I have found that the biggest misconception is this will never end... we get comfortable in our success and never make plans for if things go sideways what is next... When I was working in Alberta I was working in Housing first. The Oil sector had just crashed and every other house was for sale. People were putting their keys in the mailbox and walking away from their homes. Everything they owned was financed. They had the trucks, quads, motor bikes, rvs, boats and all the toys. They maxed out their financing, but lost the jobs. They were not prepared. They then came walking into our office looking for help... I had to tell them the reality of the situation, which was they had to make a choice between the toys or a home. Many of the people were used to making $250k plus ... to now getting $800 a month from welfare. Life can change at any moment so it's important to be ready for what's next, even if it's the one thing you dread the most.
