Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has called for peace in the crypto market, urging other blockchains to let them start 2025 in unity. According to Hoskinson, he wants the industry to end petty tribalism as it enters into the new year. Admitting his faults, Hoskinson highlighted the several controversies he has sparked up due to his issues with chains like Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP. He apologized for his past misdeeds while urging collaboration in the blockchain space in 2025.
Hoskinson also admitted to being prickly, noting that rival blockchains have also published things that are not true about his company. “One suggestion that I have for all of us in the Cardano community is to let the comments and opinions of the past go and embrace a full reset of all ecosystems,” he added. Now, he believes that Cardano is becoming mainstream, highlighting that it is a perfect window to grow the blockchain community to reach trillions.
Charles Hoskinson’s controversial spat with chains
Charles Hoskinson is regarded as one controversial figure, initially on the founding team that created Ethereum. However, his time at the company was short-lived after clashes with Vitalik Buterin over the model to adopt. While Buterin opted for a non-profit model, Hoskinson was more of a profit-minded individual. The disagreement led to him leaving his position at the company in 2014, a move he still describes as unfair.
After leaving Ethereum, Hoskinson started Cardano, floating the blockchain as superior with a decentralized governance. Since he left Ethereum, he has often had bad words for the project and its CEO Vitalik Buterin. Both individuals were at loggerheads for quite a while, clashing at intervals. But Hoskinson’s need didn’t stop at Ethereum. He went after Bitcoin Maxis, telling them Cardano was superior due to its smart contracts and proof-of-stake model.
Bitcoin supporters didn’t take his claims well, with most saying he was overstepping. He also had a stint where he was the antagonist to XRP fans, referring to users backing the project during its protracted lawsuit with the SEC as trolls. The comments infuriated the community, aggravating an issue that has caused tense relationships between both chains.
Hoskinson sparks up tension after legal threats
Hoskinson didn’t limit his confrontational approach to just words, threatening legal action against Wyoming’s Stable Token Commission last week. The issue, according to reports, was because Cardano was not included in a government-funded stablecoin project that had Solana and Ethereum. He claimed the Commissioner was biased, noting that he did not follow due process in his selection. Meanwhile, the snub may be due to Cardano’s low adoption rate compared to the invited chains.
Another controversy he was involved in was claiming he was the pseudonymous Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. His former colleagues mentioned that he had always embellished his credentials. However, he has denied that he ever said he was the Bitcoin founder. While these controversies trail his person, he is looking to turn a new leaf next year. “2025 is about unity and progress. We have a window to make crypto mainstream and grow our markets to tens of trillions of dollars of value, thereby entering every home and government alike. We can not allow petty tribalism to squander this opportunity,” he said.
