WhatsApp's latest upgrade allows users to transcribe voice notes into text, making it easier to follow conversations in noisy environments or on the go. This on-device transcription ensures privacy, as WhatsApp or third parties can't access the messages.

Currently, Android users can transcribe messages in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. iOS 16 users have additional options like French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic, with more languages added in iOS 17.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Chats and find the transcription option. Long-press a message and select 'transcribe' to convert it to text. Meta says the global rollout will occur over the next few weeks, with more languages coming soon.
