• Vitalik Buterin has floated the idea of significantly reducing the amount of ETH required to act as a stabler in Ethereum.

In a new blog post, the #Ethereum founder notes that it currently takes about 15 minutes to complete a block, and 32 #ETH is required to act as a stacker.

Buterin says these specifications are a compromise designed to balance three goals: maximize the number of validators that can bid, minimize finalization time, and minimize node overhead. The Ethereum founders say these requirements are subject to change.

Ideally, they would like to improve in two areas while maintaining economic finality.

the first goal is justified by two objectives, both of which can be seen as aligning Ethereum's characteristics with a (more centralized) performance-oriented L1 #chain .

the first objective is to ensure that all Ethereum users actually enjoy the higher level of security provided by the finalization mechanism. Currently, most users don't do this because they don't want to wait 15 minutes. With a single-slot finalization mechanism, users will be able to verify that a transaction is complete almost as soon as it is confirmed. Second, except in the relatively rare case of an inactivity leak, the protocol and surrounding infrastructure will be simplified if users and applications no longer have to worry about the ability to re-confirm the chain.
