The Layer-2 solution from Uniswap Unichain in Optimism Superchain

Layer-2 Ethereum blockchain solution Unichain was launched by Uniswap Labs.

Unichain scales cross-chain switching and transactions.
UNI rose 10% after the news.

Uniswap (UNI) gained double-digits on Thursday after launching Unichain, its DeFi Layer-2 solution. Unichain scales Ethereum while enabling cross-chain transactions.

UNI increases when Uniswap Labs launches Unichain.
Uniswap Labs launched a Unichain testnet for Ethereum Layer-2. This new chain addresses DeFi's interoperability difficulties and speeds up Ethereum's Main chain.

"We're launching Unichain – a fast, decentralized Superchain L2 that's built to be the home for DeFi and liquidity across chains," Uniswap Labs said on X Thursday.

Unichain offers a 95% cost savings over the Mainchain to grow the Ethereum roadmap, according to the company.

The company also said its relationship with Flashbot, which addresses Ethereum Maximal Extractable Value (MEV), will speed up Unichain block generation.

Due to its dynamic user base, Ethereum Layer-1 gas prices are significant during congestion. This slows transactions and gives validators additional MEV possibilities.

Unichain said its block builder would use a trusted execution environment (TEE) to boost transaction speed and transparency.

DeFi wants to offer cross-chain capability using ERC-7683, a proposed token standard to improve security and reduce mistakes in cross-chain transactions.

Unichain will be constructed utilizing the OP developer tool stack and join the Optimism Superchain, a united network of Layer 2 blockchains like Base, mainnet, Blast, Celo, etc.

As these chains become more interoperable and cheaper to build, app-specific L2s may proliferate across DeFi in the crypto market.

A native Layer-2 chain for Uniswap might affect the Ethereum mainnet, according to crypto community members.

DeFillama reports that Uniswap makes the most Ethereum income and has one of the biggest Layer-1 user populations.
