Blockchain interoperability protocol Wormhole has successfully paved the way for World IDs on the Solana blockchain. Solana builders and developers will have the capacity to integrate World ID on Solana-based protocols.
Wormhole developers have successfully integrated World IDs on the Solana blockchain two months after the entities reached a consensus. Solana builders and developers can integrate World IDs on Solana-based protocols.
Wormhole ushers in World IDs on the Solana ecosystem
World ID verification was only applicable on the Ethereum network before Wormhole’s tech reform came to life. The Layer 1’s developers were the only ones able to access World ID’s uniqueness and humanness on Ethereum protocols and platforms.
The new reform will allow Solana developers to authenticate people’s World IDs initially verified on Ethereum through protocols prioritizing real humans.
Robinson Burkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation, commented on World ID’s integration on the Solana blockchain. Burkey mentioned that the reform greatly advanced verifying identities for human-priority protocols. He also stated that Wormhole’s innovation will allow developers to build a multi-chain protocol prioritizing real users.
“With the integration of World ID and Wormhole Queries, developers can now easily build applications that prioritize real users across chains, improving trust in decentralized ecosystems.”
– Robinson Burkey
Wormhole acknowledged receiving Worldcoin’s grant to facilitate the integration in a blog post. According to Wormhole, the integration involved developing a new smart contract on Solana dubbed the SolanaWorldIDProgram. The program will verify and store World ID state roots alongside validating inclusion proofs.
SolanaWorldIDProgram leverages an Ethereum-Solana state bridge service called Wormhole Queries that allows for efficient and authenticated cross-chain data retrieval.
Blockchain security firm Ackee to audit the cross-chain smart contracts
According to an official announcement from Worldcoin, the two entities have contracted blockchain security firm Ackee to conduct extensive security audits on the smart contracts facilitating the cross-chain.
The audits will run for a few weeks to enhance data security and protect users from potential vulnerabilities.
Worldcoin announced the Worldcoin Wave1 Community Grants recipients on 27th June. Wormhole received 25,000 WLD (worth about $70,000 at the time) to allow cross-chain WorldID verification on the Solana ecosystem, which finally came to pass. The community grants also covered other grantees such as Axiom, Farcaster Humaniser, Alphaday, and Proof of Passport.
World ID technology has infiltrated various industries worldwide. Social media platforms, Web3 gaming, and online retailers have independently adopted the technology to verify humanness and uniqueness. Worldcoin announced on September 4th that digital asset and economic news outlet Bloomingbit integrated World ID to eliminate spam bot influence while dispensing news.
On March 4th, Solana creator platform DRiP announced it integrated World ID to offer rewards to verified humans by allowing them to unlock bonus Droplets. Web3 social content platform DSCVR also joined the bandwagon and is using World ID technology on their sign-in process to authenticate and reward verified humans more efficiently.
